Owner Ed has the true old-fashioned customer service attitude and actions no big chain can match.
But this time, I was wrong. And I got screwed.
The worst service. I had hip surgery and went to Ace a week later, using crutches. I asked where plumbing supplies were to the 3 employees who were gossiping at the register. One said, "You won't like the answer. Go upstairs." I told him I didn't like the answer and he turned his back to me. I had to crawl upstairs in pain. I made it back downstairs and bought the item and left. Every time I see the "Ace is the place with the helpful hardware man" I get furious. Because of this store, I only give my money to Home Depot.
Congratulations Beach Ace Hardware: You got my $61.45. I hope you're happy with that, because it also cost you 2 customers for life (my partner too).
BUT IT IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE IN-NEED PRIOR TO PREPPING FOR A HURRICANE.
I hope Home Depot and Lowe's put you out-of-business.
I just called Home Depot and Lowe's; BOTH are accepting all returns, regardless of whether or not they were "Hurricane Emergency Items."
Great customer service. You can walk around yourself to find stuff or accept service offers. It reminds me of a small town hardware store with all the hard to find items. They also carry all the regular items you expect. Much better than box box store.
I came to Beach Ace Hardware on Wednesday, October 5th to buy D batteries for my flashlight in anticipation of Hurricane Matthew. They were sold out, as were the previous 4 places I stopped. So, I decided to buy 2 LED Headlamps at $24 each because they take Triple A batteries. I also bought a pack of Triple A batteries. The total was $61.45.
I was told, "No returns on Emergency Hurricane Items." There were some printed signs by the register. I'm not sure if those signs were up on the day that I purchased my items. If so, then I accept some responsibility. But I would not have made that purchase if I knew that I could not return the items if they were unused/unopened.
Shop here often for that special experience.
I have always been partial to small hardware stores over large box stores because, in my experience, they generally have better customer service, and I like to help small businesses.
Staff and customer service are great here. Small town feel in a big city! They have just about everything you would want from a hardware store. Only reason i dont give 5 stars is if you need full sheets of drywall or plywood they dont carry it. Space is at a premium in this store.
Luckily, Hurricane Matthew missed us, so I did not open or use any of my purchases. I returned to Beach Ace Hardware 3 days later to return my items, receipt in-hand.
